David and Gretchen Guard began collaborating on this Celtic legend in 1972. Gretchen wanted to illustrate a book for children and Dave volunteered to author a rendition of "Deirdre of the Sorrows," which he had read in school. They took a trip to Ireland, where the story is set, and upon returning, Gretchen took every spare moment to produce the pencil drawings and Dave spent hours combing the stacks at the Stanford libraries for previous adaptations of the story.
This book is out of print and very rare and we were lucky to find a few copies. It has a printed hard cover with identical paper dust cover, good paper stock & more. Although Deirdre is suggested for mature children and young adults we think anyone over the age of 12 would find it enjoyable.
